Perched high on a sandstone outcrop beside the Lane Cove River, the Terra Firma residence is a striking example of architecture rooted in the landscape – both literally and conceptually. When plans were formed to establish a University of Western Sydney (UWS) Outreach Campus in an old, run down building in Lithgow’s civic precinct, it’s no surprise the project team were so commited to maintaining its old-world charm while ensuring sensitivity to the local environment.
This redevelopment involved the transformation of the 105 year old heritage building into a modern court for young people. This meant retaining parts of the existing heritage portions of the facade, whilst completely transforming the internals to a functioning and modern courthouse.
